Stake a Circle

Walt,
I do believe you have found a solution - very cool.
Will test in the field today.
Thank you.

Alex

PS: MS-developers - maybe a slightly more intuitive approach would be in order?

Stake a Circle

Walt,
thanks for the reply.
Your solution will certainly work better than what I was doing!
Am still hoping someone will have a way to stake a line, rather than to have define discreet points.

Stake circle

OK - I must be loosing it, because this HAS to be easier than I'm making it...
In FG, how to stake out a circle of known center point and radial distance?

Thanks guys!

Richard, I agree - certainly, the FG functionality is superior to the current CAD implementation - however, because the LandXML data exchange is currently only uni-directional, to accomplish what I set out to do when this thread began, it turns out I had no choice but to use CAD as a starting place....

Jason, thanks for the reply - yes I do use the desktop version of FG and like that functionality very much. So if I wanted coordinated alignment stationing with design elevations in BOTH FG and CAD, are you saying I should create the roads from scratch in FG, then import that project into CAD? Would...

Roading Workflow from MS-CAD to Field Genius

Anyone out there transferring road designs from paper to MS-CAD and then staking them out with Field Genius? I'd be interested to know what the suggested work-flow is. I'm starting with paper plans with alignment information but no surveyed topography. I can build both horizontal and vertical alignm...

For any who are interested, here's a workflow we came up with: 1. explode the LW-Polyline 2. auto-add points to the exploded line segments using the "MS-points database utilities" 3. using the Active Coordinate Editor, assign an identical temporary description to all of the new points 4. In Automap ...

In paper-space, sometimes the selected print area doesn't "stick", and often, the page offset settings don't "stick". Usually, all it takes is to get into print settings a second time. I "center" almost all of my printouts, and have to re-check the the "center page" on the advanced tab of "Print Set...

Lightweight Polyline to Polyline conversion

It is my understanding that FieldGenius cannot handle lightweight polyline entities in DXF files.

Is anyone aware of a method (other than tracing the lines by hand) of converting the LWPolys to "heavyweight" (old-style) polylines?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Richard, thanks for the reply. I've been a Corel user far longer than I've been a CAD user, but it has never occured to me to pull CAD files into CD - only the other way around. And I suppose it is easier to bring the CAD file into CD so as to add elements than the other way around - which I have do...

Find/Delete Empty Layers?

Is there an easy way to identify if a layer is empty (has no entities)? Alternatively, can one produce a list of layers with summary data about a layer (e.g. its default settings and including the number of entities stored within it)? How about automating the finding and deleting all empty layers in...

I'm intrigued. What is it that you do to the MS-CAD files in CD?
Color rendering of 3-D surfaces?

Richard, have you noticed situations where the Site Design routine "punches through" (or "leaks past") an existing surface? Have spent many hours trying to adjust node and grid densities to stop this from happening (sometimes it does). Glad to see someone else on this forum who is using the program ...

Glen,
Glad to hear about all the new development efforts. I had heard hints that the modelling routines will be scrutinized in the future and will be happy to give them a try once they are in beta.

Richard and Glen, thanks for the replies Glen's fix works! In a nutshell, the solution is to "Zoom Extents" before saving. I would never have figured that out on my own. Although relatively new to MS-Cad, I think I've been ushing the envellope on modelling (at least that's the input I get from tech support calls). IntelliCAD File Save Error

I'm trying to work with a .dwg file which I received from a civil engineering firm. It's fairly complex: 10 MB file size, with 90 layers (but almost all 2D). The file opens up fine in MS-CAD 2005 SP1.3 (with some font substitutions) and displays well. In fact I can manipulate, measure and add and de...

artb, I don't want to add fuel to a fire, but thought I should use this topic to mention a related piece of experience (for others following this thread). Another way

Ed, I do what you describe all the time. I also did not know about the "XG" option. Sometimes, especially if there is a lot of linework that you might want to turn off and on, its good to have it in DXF. If your points and data were exported using the "FG2004" format, when you tap on a DXF line, the...

BT adapter power
