You have a point Ian, but as I said, the control point was established redundantly. All the observations, checked plus or minus 0.03' or so. So the location of the control point is not the issue. How FG is interpreting it is. Nonetheless, we should have checked into something else, but didn't since ...

Ian, Just to make sure we are not misunderstanding each other... The two points to which I am referring are both for the RTK base. They are not points with the same values that are staking out in different locations (that truly would be weird.) I imagine that there must be something in the raw data ...

Ian If the coordinates are identical and in the same file, using the same calibration on the same site, they cannot possibly staking out six feet apart. There is something else going on. They shouldn't be staking six feet apart, but they are. The coordinates are flat for both points, including Z. I ...

GPS staking

I have two coordinate points in a file with the exact same values. If I set the RTK base using one point number I get a solution that is approximately six feet different than using the other point number. WHY?

I think I have #2 and 3 figured out. It looks like the user must toggle back and forth from the task bar to the FG program (by clicking at the bottom edge of the screen) to disconnect and reconnect the units. Both units will use port 6 apparently.

I am still curious about question #1. Thanks.

I don't know if this is part of the bug fix but here is my input for what it's worth. The staking settings should be tied to individual instruments. Every time we switch from a total station to GPS or vice versa we have to reset the staking settings from azimuth back to L/R, etc. We also seem to hav...

Bluetooth on Topcon Hiper Lite

Hi all, I am just getting around to configuring my Tracker Extreme for bluetooth with the HiperLite GPS. I have figured out how to connect to one of my units and add the connection to my favorites. I have several questions. 1.) The units (base and rover) do not have a configured passkey. The Tracker...

Editing coordinates

I wish FG would allow direct editing of coordinate points. I suspect that the fact that it does not is some kind of safety feature, but it is really just annoying. Sometimes I just want to change the Z value. Not allowed. What are the alternatives? It seems there are two. 1. Translate the point to t...

Jason, Your message reminded me that we have been having a problem switching from the IR edm to RL. We are having to power off the instrument and restart before it will switch over using FG. It seems to need a fresh boot. I don't know if you encountered the same problem. Hopefully this is one of the...

Jason, I have not visited the forum in a while and just saw your message. I am not using the Tracker. I have FG installed on an Allegro. I do not connect the RC3 to the data collector at all. When I want the instrument to search, I reach and push the button on top of the RC3 while aiming at the inst...

It has taken me a few days to get around to messing with this but I now have it figured out. I was under the mistaken impression that this device would network using windows networking services just like any other computer. Wrong. When establishing a wireless connection you must first realize that y...

Darcy, I've got to believe there is more to it than that. I have left the tracker on for hours while it is connected to my network and still cannot get it to communicate. My laptop, on the other hand (also wireless), shows up in a few seconds. I have also tried forcing a connection by "searching for...

Wi-Fi on X-treme

Hi all, I have a new tracker X-treme with Wi-Fi. I set it up to connect to my WEP encrypted router. It says it is connected, displays signal strength, and I can connect to the internet via Internet Explorer. The subnet mask and IP address looks ok. (It is assigned by DHCP) However, in the nework tab...

Oops. That's news to me. I have a 9005A (with built-in reflectorless) that I am using with it daily. I am using the RC3 with it, but push the search button manually when I need it. Maybe when I get the right drivers it will work even better than it does now. It is a little buggy switching from IR to...

Jason, Thanks for the response. Did you do any raw file editing in FieldGenius and then recoordinated it? No. Did you use the transform functions which is accesible from the coordinate editor? No. All I did was turn the data collector on/off and begin a new setup. Then as I described, I recalculated...

The good news is that writing all that down helped me to formulate a plan and realize what happened. I recovered the data. This seriously took the wind out of my sails today. The "reversion" theory is still the only one that makes sense to me. The pre-lunch coordinates and observations were all corr...

Coordinate reversion?

I am having a serious problem with FieldGenius that I will try to communicate as best I can. I am still trying to wrap my brain around it myself. I have a job (topographic) which I did alone using a combination of the new Topcon Robotic GPT 9005A and Topcon HiperLite RTK. Using AllegroCE with v. 3.0...

Why not just apply a scale factor of 1/3.28083333 to the whole job? You would still have the elevation problem though.

2 more wish items

While you guys are on the subject, I have a couple of questions regarding the RTK localization. I am writing off the top of my head here, so some of my terminology may be a little off. 1. After localization, why doesn`t FieldGenius allow the user to occupy any point in the local system? It seems tha...

Road templates

I just used FG for the first time to stake out some roads with GPS a couple of weeks ago. I really like this aspect of the program. I think the roads manager is intuitive and provides excellent flexibility. One thing I ran into was what I consider a little glitch with the template files. I created a...
