Original Datum and Units

Post by newuser » Thu Aug 08, 2013 8:29 am

I am new to M.S. I am wondering how can I find out what is the original datum or coordinate system of my data in M.S. When I go to "Activate Coordinate Editor", the only info. I have is Northing & Easting. For instance, if I want to export my drawing to Google Earth, I need to set the coordinate system although I don't know what is its original datum (e.g., is that in UTM? Which zone? or in NAD83?...) Similarly, what is the original unit of my drawing (U.S feet, Int. feet, m,...)
In other word, is there any metadata or sth like that in M.S to find out the datum, units,... that originally set for a drawing (received from others)?

Hope someone can help me out in this case. 8)

You need to tie your survey to the datum that you want. Move, rotate to the known datum. Now set in the coordinate editor the system you move your drawing to.

Good to go now with google earth. Just WRITEKML file and your in.
