autosave mscad2004

It seems that autosave saves not only to the temp directory, but also overwrites the existing file. So if I open a drawing make some changes and save it with a different name, the original file is also changed. Is this the way it is supposed to work? I would think that if I don't save the changes to a drawing, it should remain like it was before. I believe that is the way most programs work, including, I do believe, even MSCAD 2002.

With MSCAD 2002 and 2004, if you wish to open a job and do some modifications and also save it to another name - then the order of operation is extremely important.

1) Open the old job
2) do a SAVEAS
3) then do the desired modifications

If you do the changes first then you are working in the old live job. The database is open and being updated all the time, as soon as you do anything. The autosave is for the FLX and the creation of backup files.

ALWAYS do a saveas and then do the modification - assuming the original is to not have thoise modifications in it.
