Field Genius - Audiovox PDA - Leica 1200 GPS

Post by KrdSmith » Tue May 09, 2006 2:00 pm

We would really like to get our Field Genius and Recons up and running with our Leica 1200 system GPS unit. We want to use it conjunction with RTK corrections provided by the British Columbia Active Control system over the Bell wireless network via PDA. I had talked to Brian Sloman about this a few months ago and at that time this wasn't possible. Are we any closer to making this happen? We would really like to be out there doing full topo pickup with our RTK systems utilizing FGenius as right now we are having to connect all of our linework in the office.

Hi Kevin,

In November of 2005 we confirmed that FieldGenius can control the Leica 1200 unit using a cell modem to receive RTK corrections. All that is required is that the receiver has version 1.54 firmware or newer installed. The newer firmware fixes a bug that prevented third party data collection from communicating with external cell modems connected to the receiver.

So the first thing I would check is the firmware you currently have installed on the receiver.

Second - The 1200 1.54 firmware supports a CDMA cell connection only via a third party data collector such as FieldGenius. If you are using a GSM connection you will have to wait for another fix to the firmware. Leica is working on the issue and will let us know when it is resolved.
