Error Saving File

I am having a problem with saving files. When opening an AutoCAD file that has never been opened in MicroSurvey, if I try and save the file or do a Save As command I get the following error:

Intellicad

Error: Null Object Id.

Your File Could not be saved.
M:\ the path to the file

Not only does it not save the file but it completely blanks out the original file, which can be very dangerous if you don't have it backed up.

Any thoughts on this?

I assume you're using 2005? Have you MSCAD2004? Can you open in that?
AutoCAD dwg's from third parties can cause issues with 2005 especially when they contain entities unique to AutoCAD.
I too have had files completely disappear. Its not good news from my experience. Not much help, but not sure there is any.
(Sometimes only the .dwg is lost. Changing the .bak to .dwg can restore the drawing. Make a copy before attempting saves is my motto.)
Can you request a dwg in an earlier version that may help.

Might try to save to dxf ver. 10. Close the drawing. Then open the dxf file. Apparently washing the dwg through an old version of dxf has the effect of deleting the offending objects/quirks.

Try using the RECOVER program to open the drawing.

This does fix many errors.

If you see a number of Proxies when opening have them resend
drawing wit no Proxies. It can be done. Its just a larger file.

If you SAVEAS AutoCAD 12, then open it and SAVEAS AutoCAD 2004.

Don't use the SAVE button, use it only after you know that all is ok.

I have tried many of the suggestions, with still no luck. I am using MiscroSurvey 2005 and do not have access to 2004.

I have tried saving (in Microsurvey 2005) in various different formats such as dxf 10, dxf 14, dwg 11/12 still don't work. I do have access to AutoCAD 2006, is there something I can do in there to saveas a different format that will work in Microsurvey?

When I do try and save it as an older dxf file format I get a different error with the same result of an empty file.

Error: Undo operation is not available.

Your file could not be saved.

Any thoughts?

I'd like some ideas on a similar problem also. MicroSurvey CAD 2005 There are 2 users in our office, 2 different computers. One of them is always losing data. He tries to save his file, and for some reason it doesn't save. No errors pop up or anything, it just acts like it saved the file even though it didn't. So when he tries to open it later, he realizes that data was lost. The .bak file doesn't update either. The only way I was able to recover stuff was using the Autosave .sv$ file, which I set to autosave every 10 minutes for that reason.

Is this a related problem? Any ideas?

Ok here is some more ideas

Before you SAVE , Zoom Extents and make sure you are in WORLD View as well.

ZOOM extents does not seem to help. I can open and save this file no problem in AutoCAD, but I would like to be able to use it in Microsurvey as well and be able to save it. If I simply open the file in Microsurvey, everything shows up fine, but if I immediately try and save it I receive the error message and the file is reduced to 0KB

Ok there is something in that drawing that MSCAD2005 does not like.

1. Try this Delete All Hatching

2. Explode all Polylines and if it won't explode then delete them.

If you have AutoCAD do it there. If AutoCAD won't delete it, then it is
a Proxy graphics and that is your problem.

You are now down to just lines

Has to save now.

before you do anything.

Also if you use a Template drawing make sure its up to date.

okay, so I have opened the drawing in AutoCAD and selected everything in the drawing and used the explode command. Here is what I get:

Command: explode
233 found
142 were not able to be exploded.

Save the file in AutoCAD and then proceed to try and open it and save it in Microsurvey, and what do you know, it works. So even though it wasn't able to explode everything it seems to have solved the problem that was preventing it from being saved by MicroSurvey.

It is a MSCAD 2005 drawing, created and manipulated with only the one software. I'm not sure if he uses a template or not, I'll check and make sure it's current if so.
